Having as a starting point the saying “East or West, home is best”, this paper probes
the many meanings of the word home. We are not only investigating dictionary definitions.
The study forwards a multi-layered approach, which will help us answer the difficult
question: what is home? Viewed from different perspectives – linguistic, psychological,
social and emotional – the term in question reveals an entire world of meanings. Moreover,
“home” ultimately proves to be a concept that shapes and affects our life and experiences
more than any other.
