The Formation and Functioning of Compound Neologisms on Twitter and Facebook Social Networking Sites

Abstract

The article deals with the newly coined lexical units of English-speaking segment of Twitter and Facebook social networking services. The present paper looks into newly coined words which are compounds, their main types depending on the structure of the constituent stems. For the present investigation, the latest innovations were taken from Word Spy and Urban dictionary – online dictionaries of new words, slang words and phrases.
